Boys!

Lately, I have been observing little boys (not in the perverted way) since I do not have any first hand experience with them (besides my daycare years which were many moons ago...in fact I thought the other day that one year olds I used to take care of in the daycare center that were so near and dear to my heart are now in high school...but I digress). All the boys I have observed are a lot more physical (climbing, running, jumping) than the little girls the same age. This scares the crap out of me since I will have two to chase. I also have to learn to like trucks, action figures, and sports. Scott tells me that I better learn how to play catch by the time the boys are one. Don't get me wrong, I am very excited about having boys...but to me they are still very mysterious creatures.

In other baby boy news, we are struggling with coming up with any names. If anyone wants to share any cute names they are willing to "give away" please do. We have to come up with two and it seems to be quite a challenge.

Also for those Moms that have had more than one child, did you go all out with the other kid's nursery? I can't really justify spending a lot of money on bedding sets when I will need two. All the really cute ones are at least $175 and multiply that by two. I guess if I just get plain crib sets and decorate the walls it will be just as cute! Honestly, who ever really sees the nursery anyway.

We've always loved Joseph and Will, but I have since abandoned them for another favorite. My neighbor's little boy is Quinn and I think that's adorable... another friend is due in July with a Brayden (Brady). Benjamin and Simon are always good choices. ;)

As for boys being more physical, yeeep. True dat. You're gonna have fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun! ;P

And yes, I went all out for the #2's nursery... but I did so knowing it would also be #3's nursery. I love the idea of just getting plain/solid sheets/bumpers and then doing the real decorating on the walls though! I think you should do Dr. Suess' Thing 1 and Thing 2! ;)

Boys are a lot of fun. I had a boy first then a girl. My son can be easier. And getting into cars and trucks is very easy ; )
I did go all out for my daughter's nursery because we had moved to a new house. I put the most work into the painting which was not as much money as getting the expensive bedding set. So you could maybe just by the bumpers and have plan sheets and then paint the room to match. I love Erin's idea!
Boys names I love: Owen, Jonah, Joshua and Cooper.

Well, growing up, I always liked the name Kristian Alexander for a boy. But, being married to a Chris and having a brother-in-law named Alex kinda nixed that name for me. I also like Jacob, but that's our last name. I'll think of some more names and post them later.

As for the nursery...I agree with your idea for decorating the room. Bedding is so expensive. We didn't even buy ours for Carter, it was a gift at the shower. And since you don't always get a shower for #2 (or #'s 2&3 in your case), I would just do something simple. Wall decorations are cheaper and you can change them.

And as far as raising boys goes...yeah, they are more rowdy, but I am so happy that I had a boy first. They may be a handful when they are younger, but later on, if I were you, I would be so relieved to have two teenaged sons rather than girls! Boys are great. If my next one is a boy, I will not be sad! :)

Being a mother of a now 1 year old. He is definitely into EVERYTHING. Also, I think the old saying "Girls are easier when they are younger and get harder when they get older and Boys are harder when they are younger and get easier when they are older" is true to an extent. I am still waiting for the easy part. And it is definitely difficult because he is a momma's boy.

Yes, you will have to learn to play catch and all that is fun about boy stuff. Luckliy I love football so I have that under my belt already. I still have a lot to learn about other things but you have some time before that hits.

As for the room - we painted Logan's room in a blue color that could have been decorated any way. I think that it would be easier to paint it solid and get plain bedding. You could put their names over their beds and have different mobiles over their beds.

Names... let me see I am partial to Logan (for obvious reasons) and the other choice for him was Riley. I also like Michael - but there are some many other there.

Do you want to go with unique names? Also, are you going to try to name them with names starting the same way? Just more questions in the pot!!!

Brendan Gregory was our "just in case it comes out a boy" name.

As for the room, with Paige, we decided to paint her room green with an accent wall sponge painted. We're hoping that when she is old enough for the "big girl room" we won't have to paint again, just get new bedding and decorations if needed. For Conner's "big boy room" I went with blue and white, again, we're hoping that will last for many years to come. We can always change pictures. Target has some cute and cheaper bedding. That's what we did for Paige (I was SOOOO NOT spending bookoos of money on more bedding that will last for a year or 2).

William and Ronald!

Joaquin and River!!! They would be the coolest guys on the block

Joaquin and River? Do you want my kids to be addicted to drugs????

Sarah said...

They could be famous though.

More names... Darren and Darryl, Miller Lyte (like Matthew McConaughey's brother named his son) and Sam Adams - going for the beer theme.

But seriously, I really like Brady and Brett (I guess that's the football lover in me). Kyle and Korey.

Gerald Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzgerald. That was a coworker's suggestion. I guess they go with my last name better than yours though.

Sarah, if I show Scott the beer names he may get excited...I am so not doing that!!!

Jose and Josbe

I figured as much. I told Dan about the Miller Lyte name and he started going on about if, and when, we have another child and if it is a girl we should call her Sierra Nevada. I told him that it was to close to my name he said that's fine will call her Nevada. So yeah, he is not in charge of naming them and definitely not beer names!!! I can't blame you there.

Val where did you come up with Josbe??? If you have twins do not call one of them Josbe. Although that does go with the "J" names you could have Jose, Josbe and Jordan.

Sarah said...

I think you should go with Hans and Luke.

I hope that i have not offended anyone with my josbe comment. if I have I am sorry.

I love Aaron, William, Garrett, Glenn. I totally agree with you about the whole nursery thing. I spend a fortune on my first child's crib set and he didn't even use the blanket at all!! I went much more affordable this time around especially with two. Painted walls with simple patterns are the in thing anyway.

Oh and boys think their mommies hung the moon! You will love it!

names: caleb + calum, alastair, aidan...our other names for jonah were josiah, ezra and amos =) sorry, we are stuck on the bible theme!!

boys are lovely and cuddly =) i can't say as opposed to girls, but my boys are active and non-stop!

I would go with the plainer bedding and go all out with the decorations. My bedspread from Abby's set wound up serving a wall decoration (as you know). With boys, the themes you could go with are easy to find accessories for (somehow I see a sports room in their future).

Janelle, I love the name Ezra!! (But I'm so not leaning in the biblical sense...though you'd think so with 'Jordan' and all...)

I know Don would never let me use the name 'Ezra' though...Now if only I could convince him on 'Joaquin'. I LOVE that name!

Oh, and Becky, Don had the suggestion of putting three names in a hat and drawing two of the three: Don, Tim and Ed.

Mandy said...

Awwwww...little Tim Don and Don Ed. ;) Seriously, our husbands have the most boring names. :) The first name can't be Ed because our boy name is still Edward Ronald. Now if one of the twins' middle name was Ronald, that's cool...but it would be weird to have a cousin with the same first name.

Val, somehow that thought just frightens me! Yet very funny!

my mom made the bedding for our 'nusery'...as in the bumper and such, blanket and curtains. i'm sure you could pick the material and find someone to make it for you *or you could hire my mom=)* we have jemima puddleduck/peter rabbit and its adorable with the wall stickers. but on the other side of the room we have thomas the tank wall stickers! a great mixture!!

I second that with Val. We need a new post!
